How to pack your parcel for posting

Girl: Noom, if I want to send a package by post, what should I do?
Officer: What do you want to send? You can follow these simple steps.

  1. Inform the type of delivery and your item list to the postal officer at the packing spot.
  2. If your item is not on the prohibited item list, the officer will give you the packing instructions and will seal the stamp ‘Checked.’
  3. Choose a good quality ‘box and cushioning material’ which fits your item. I suggest that it’d be the best for you to buy them at the post office!
  4. Protect your item with ‘cushioning material’ for an extra layer in order to make your item safe or prevent it from harming anyone (For example, securely wrap the sharp object, put any liquid object into a plastic bag before putting it into a container.)
  5. ‘Wrap your item’ firmly and properly to stop it from flying open and mixing up with other parcels.
  6. Wrap each of your items according to the type instructed in the ‘Postal guidelines.’ (For example, the packing of publication or small packets is needed to be openable for officers to inspect.)
  7. In case the packing of your item does not follow the postal rules, the postal officer at the packing or deposit spot may…
    1. Ask the sender to repack/rewrap the package.
    2. If the sender fails to repack/rewrap, the officer may deny the deposit.

Officer: Don’t forget to wrap and seal your package firmly.

Suggestion: The sender should select the size of box which properly fits with the item and surround the container box with cushioning material in order to protect your item during the delivery. The smallest box allowed is 9 x 14 cm.

How to choose packing materials

  • Only used for sending ‘documents’.
  • Minimum size of the envelope allowed is 9 x 14 cm.
  • Seal the envelope firmly to make sure that your item is secured inside the envelope.
  • Seal the reinforced tape again on the seam everytime to reinforce.

Cushion envelope

  • Used for sending other items which are not ‘documents’. If the item is fragile, please put on the protection or wrap the item with cushioning material before putting into the envelope.
  • Seal the envelope firmly to make sure that your item is secured inside the envelope.
  • Seal the reinforced tape again on the seam everytime to reinforce.

Prefabricated box

  1. Corrugated cardboard box (กล่องกระดาษแข็ง)
  2. Cylinder box (กล่องทรงกระบอก)

In case of using a used box or patterned box, the sender needs to wrap the entire box with brown paper or plain paper before the deposit. The box also needs to be in a good condition to use.

  1. Use the prefabricated box sold by Thailand Post to ensure the box’s quality and strength.
  2. The size of the box must not be smaller than 9 x 14 cm.
  3. Choose the box which fits your item properly. Fill the space inside the box with cushioning material to limit movement and protect the item during delivery.
  4. Tape all seams with reinforced tape on the top and bottom of the box by taping the shape of ‘H’ on the box.
  5. Tie the rope or strap firmly.
